Wrapped in red, this beautiful, faceless woman represents the thousands of women silenced and “in the wind”. It was created to raise awareness about the epidemic of murdered and missing indigenous women and girls in our nation. May 5 has been commemorated as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Across the nation, we are called upon to wear red to acknowledge thousands of young women and girls who go missing each year. Indigenous women and girls in North America, are up to 10 times more likely to be murdered or sexually assaulted.
