I imagined this piece after seeing a vintage photograph of a group of  boys reading comic books outside of a store. Finding a copy of a 1960’s Mighty Mouse comic book at the thrift store gave me all the inspiration I needed to get started.  I wanted to illustrate a morning in this little boy’s day off of school...dropping his bicycle on the sidewalk, he emptied his pocket full of marbles in order to find his hard earned change to buy a Mighty Mouse comic book and some Double Bubble. A page from a 60’s Life magazine that had  comic books in the background became a section of the step that he is sitting on. What a great way to spend a Saturday.
