While spending time reading about the life of Jesus, I gave a lot of thought about what it must have been like for Mary when the angel Gabriel appeared before her announcing that she would conceive a son by the power of the Holy Spirit. As I pondered, I imagined this young woman at work in her home when the angel appeared at her doorstep, and light shining in from his direction. The vessel she was holding was empty as she began to prepare the evening meal, representing to me the empty vessel of her womb prepared to receive the gift of the coming Lord. I embedded text from a vintage Bible storybook to create folds in Mary's robe, added definitions from an antique dictionary to shadows, and hid some beautiful images throughout this piece.
